ABOUT US
The FLORIDA STARS is a Not-For- Profit off-season 7 v 7 youth football program developed by Coach Glenn Holt, a native of South Florida and a former NFL wide receiver. Coach Holt created this program to teach youth athletes the fundamentals necessary to excel in football while instilling the core values to succeed on and off the field. These values of hard work, honesty, teamwork, responsibility, dedication and discipline are the recipe for success for a player and a winning team. Most importantly, Coach Holt believes that each Player should strive to be the best they can be.
A Legacy of Commitment to Community
Coach Holt’s inspiration began with his uncle, Jesse “Bobby” Holt, Jr. who became the first African American to make the All-Dade County High School Track Team and was recognized as one of the fastest runners in the world and received an athletic scholarship to Grambling State University. He then played for the Oakland Raiders and the Boston Patriots of the American Football League. Following his professional football career, Jesse Holt returned to Miami with a desire to help cultivate aspiring athletes, and founded the Miami Northwest Express Track Club and began the annual Northwest Track and Field Classic with 2008 Olympians Tiffany Ross Williams and Bershawn “Batman” Jackson who went on to win the bronze medal for the 400 Meter Hurdles. “Uncle Bobby” ignited the Holt family culture of inspiring youth athletes to reach their full potential while overcoming life’s challenges.
This inspiration was reinforced by his father Glenn Holt Sr., a Miami Native, who was awarded “Athlete of the Year” while attending North Miami Senior Highschool and went on to Louisianna State University with a football Scholarship. His love of the game and his community led him back home to Miami where he coached Highschool football and mentored athletes including his son Glenn.
Coach Glenn Holt was also born and raised in Miami’s inner city, where he excelled in football and learned the importance of having mentors in the community. After graduating Highschool, Coach Holt earned a scholarship to the University of Kentucky where he was a 3–year starter and gained SEC Honors as 2nd most Leading Receiver and Receptions. Coach Holt then had the opportunity to experience playing in the NFL for the Cinncinatti Bengals. In fact, he still holds the record for the second longest kick return in NFL history.
After playing professional football, Coach Holt returned home to South Florida like his father and “Uncle Bobby” before him, with a desire to mentor youth athletes. Since 2015, Coach Holt has been an Assistant Varsity Football Coach at St. Thomas Aquinas Highschool and since 2022 has been a volunteer for the 12U and 14U divisions of the Fort Lauderdale Falcons, Pop Warner tackle football program.
Coach Holt understands the importance of opening the eyes of the young player to opportunities beyond high school and their neighborhood. For that reason, he has developed the FLORIDA STARS football program with a mission to expose young players to colleges and universities with the goal of expanding the players awareness of programs and opportunities for growth and success beyond high school.
